January 2010

You are currently browsing the monthly archive for January 2010.

These are pictures of two custom buoys done to benefit The Cape Ann Art Haven of Gloucester . I know it is another star wars custom thing. I feel like a broken record sometimes but I think that it came out great. The birdcage buoy is a design that my wife Tammy thought up. She did all the paper cutting and layering and I did the wire and copper work. It is a true jam piece and we had a lot of fun doing it. Swing by the event meet some people and buy some art! It’s this Friday night starting at 6pm at the Cruiseport in Gloucester. Click the website for more info.

Dear & Yonder

Karen and I just got back from Mexico where we shared a house with one of the creators of Dear and Yonder, Andria Lessner. After much anticipation our copy of the DVD arrived the other day and the movie is one of the best efforts I have seen in a long time. Really inspiring short bios on women who are representing surfing in a positive way. Hoping to find a venue for surf movie night so we can show this.

Michael Prince

Hiver Michael Prince just had 2 pictures added to the permanent collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and 2 added to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Congrats Michael.

good stuff

blockhead1blockhead2

Well I’m not a blockhead but rather it is the title of my new piece .This is a kit bash sculpture I did from an old school mpc vader tie model kit and some other plastic stuff I had. Kit bash are fancy words for using parts from lots of model kits and throwing out the instruction sheet. It combines two of my childhood loves Star Wars and Charlie Brown. He is such a blockhead that it just had to be the name for it.

Meghan & Mike

Hivers Meghan and Mike at Persistent Productions wrote from their winter hideout in Monteray, CA to announce they are wrapping their hour-long documentary Shooting for Democracy. The film examines the 2008 national elections in the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan and the 2008 US presidential elections from the perspective of high school students in each country. The film combines professionally produced footage with excerpts from students’ work. Students in three classrooms participated in a video exchange program, and the film follows their personal experiences while also exploring the social and political contexts of these distinct nations.

They are at the beginning of sending the film out to film festivals and are looking forward to some screenings locally on Cape Ann happening in the spring.

Kilgallen

Hello Hivers! A lot of people ask me about the image transfer process that I use in my mixed media artwork. Recently, I did a write-up on my own blog and thought I would post a link to it up here as well. I hope you will enjoy playing around with this method. It does take some trial and error but after a little bit of practice, you will be having fun with it, too! Read the full blog post here.
