Kyle Browne on GMG

Thanks to the Hivers – particularly John Hintlian for taking the pictures –  and everyone else who braved the rain yesterday to make a statement about climate change.  We were part of a huge movement – over 5,200 events in over 180 countries.  See more pictures and read the stories at www.350.org.

Tom Torrey a.k.a. Gammaraybots has a piece in the All the Right Gallery and store in Queens New York. It is being presented by Tenacious Toys and sculptor Mike Mendez. The idea behind this show was to customize not a toy but an empty roll-on container.

The containers are cheap and can be found anywhere. Toms entry “The Slob” is wrapped in sculpy modeling compound sculpted and painted in acrylics. The only other materials are underarm hair and his bath towel.

The show opens :
Friday, October 30th, 7PM (Devils’ Night!)
All the Right graff supply store
3561 Junction Blvd
Corona, Queens, NY

Any Hive family or fans that are in the queens area stop by and check it out.

Bout #2, 7 pm: Nutcrackers vs. Cosmonaughties
Shriners Auditorium, Wilmington, MA
Tickets $14 in advance, $16 at the door. Kids 6-13 $10, under 6 free.
www.BostonDerbyDames.com for tickets and more info!

Bout #1: Get warmed up with an expo bout where the ever-changing New England Roller Derby (featuring members of the Wicked Pissahs and skaters from across the region) takes on New Jersey’s Garden State Rollergirls.

Bout #2: It’s the battle for the first official Golden Fez Championship! In the closest home team bout of the season, the 0-4 Cosmonaughties notched their first win of 2009 just when it counted most, at the September playoffs. That bout put an end to the Wicked Pissahs hopes of winning three championships in a row, but gave hope to underdogs everywhere. Have the Cosmos stepped up their game enough to upset the undefeated Nutcrackers?

This is the final local bout of the Boston Derby Dames 2009 season. Don’t miss it!

**Bring a new toy for Shriners Hospital and get some BDD swag in return, along with a lot of gratitude from the Dames, the Shriners, and all the kids receiving care in Boston.**

Evolution of an Octopus

Step 1 – Go to Todd Farms on a Sunday morning and find a solidly constructed antique nightstand covered in caked-on layers of white paint.
Step 2 – Strip that sucker down to bare wood.
Step 3 – Draw a cool (albeit slightly angry) octopus and transfer to a frisket.
Step 4 – Stain, mask, paint, lacquer, line the drawers, attach hardware.
Step 5 – Take to the Hive show and sell it that night.
Go to www.willmeans.com to see more pictures of the finished product and other reborn wood by Will Means. will means_evolution octopus
